Protein balls are one of my favorite snacks to keep in the fridge, because they are the perfect quick and healthy snack! If you are a person who is always on the go, one of my biggest tips is to always have healthy snacks ready to grab. Not only does it save time, but I have found that it helps me stay on track with my healthy eating.
I always try to eat snacks that are high in protein, because protein aids in building lean muscle and helps your muscles recover after exercise. If you are looking to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight, high-protein snacks are the key because they keep you feeling satisfied until your next meal.
The best part about protein balls is that they are delicious! If you are someone who likes to snack on sweets, you should definitely give them a try. You can also get very creative with flavors by swapping ingredients. I love to make a new flavor each week and keep them in my fridge for a quick snack!
I love banana bread, and this week I had bananas that were getting overripe, so I chose to make banana bread protein balls. These are full of flavor, and are naturally sweet thanks to the sweetness of the ripe banana!
Here are some tips for making my banana bread protein balls:
- Use very ripe bananas that are going brown. Overripe bananas have a much sweeter taste and stronger banana flavor, which naturally sweetens the protein balls.
- Blend your oats! This step is optional, but I love the smooth texture that it creates.
- I did not need to add any extra liquid to my protein balls because of the mashed banana. If your dough is too dry, you can add a splash of milk.
- Mix, mix, mix! At first the dough may look dry and crumbly, but if you keep mixing it will come together. If not, add a tiny splash of milk at a time until it does. If you add too much liquid, the dough will be sticky and difficult to roll into balls. If your dough is too sticky, add more oats.

Banana Bread Protein Balls
Ingredients
- 1 cup oats
- 1 serving vanilla protein powder
- 1 mashed ripe banana
- 1 tbsp maple syrup or honey
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 2 tbsp chocolate chips or chopped nuts
Instructions
- Blend oats until they become a fine flour texture, then add to a mixing bowl.
- Add all other ingredients, and stir together until a very thick dough forms. If the dough is too dry, add a splash of milk at a time until it comes together.
- Lightly coat hands in neutral oil (I used coconut) to prevent the dough from sticking to your hands. Roll the dough into balls, and store in an airtight container in the fridge! Enjoy!
